FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What does my fundraised money go toward?

A: Great Question! Everything that you fundraise goes towards paying for the GE experience pre-field, on-field, and post-field. The bulk of your dollars pay for your on-field expenses, which include: transportation (flights or driving) to and from your site, transportation while you're there, food, housing, ministry supplies, emergency funds, travel insurance, etc. We also cover all of your expenses related to your pre-trip training, as well as your post-trip re-entry experience, which we believe are equally as important as the experience itself.

Q: What does my fundraised money NOT include?

A: What you raise does NOT include a passport or spending money - those are all on your own!

Q: How do you know if it's safe to travel to where I'm going?

A: A very important question! We do a number of things to ensure your safety while at your site. First, we are in consistent communication with all our GE partners who all live on-field. They are keeping us up to date on anything that is going on in the community that we need to be aware of. Second, we are monitoring all our locations using travel.state.gov, which is a federal website used to keep all Americans aware of what is going on in the world. We are regularly monitoring for warnings in each city, state, and country we may be sending students to. We also automatically enroll all international travelers and our staff in the Federal Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). This program sends important alerts and ensures you can be located in case of an emergency. Finally, we provide comprehensive Emergency training for all leaders, send them with an Emergency Action Plan, and an emergency fund. Part of that Emergency Action Plan includes a 24/7 emergency phone line that is answered by a professional staff member. Should there be an emergency, our office is prepared to mobilize our staff and students to address it as quickly, and as safely as possible.

Q: What about vaccines?

A: We are required by law to follow all international, state, or local laws regarding all vaccination requirements, including COVID-19. If a country requires proof of a specific vaccine upon entry, you will be required to obtain that vaccine to go on that trip. Further, we default to the on-field Global Engagement partners requirements. If they require a specific vaccine, or PPE, such as masking, you will be required to adhere to their request for vaccine or PPE policies. We are upfront with these requirements on our website in our trip-specific information.

Q: Why does my Managed Missions profile not match my GiveSmart fundraising page? What's the difference between these pages?

Your Managed Missions profile houses all your trip information. Here, you'll be able to see any necessary trip information, tasks and goals you need to complete, and a full picture of your fundraising progress. This is the only place that will have the payments you've made towards your trip, scholarships you've received towards your trip, and any donations you've received (cash, check, or online).

GiveSmart is an online platform that allows the university to collect donations and attribute them to your trip. This page will only show online donations you've received. We have this separate page as this allows the university to give your donors a tax deductible receipt for contributing to your trip. Typically, donations here take 2 weeks to hit your ManagedMissions account.
